| Lost their investors money | Amount | |
|---|---|---|
| Small companies (under $500 million) | 7,122 of 11,015 | $7.57 trillion |
| Big companies ($500 million and up) | 1,074 of 2,530 | $14.27 trillion |
| All companies combinedincludes banks and shell companies | 10,606 of 17,857 | $31.28 trillion |
The common thread is warrants. Companies that used warrants lost their investors money 65% of the time. Companies that didn’t: 49%.
How we count: from each company’s own annual reports filed with the SEC since 2001: what its stock was worth when it first appeared, plus the money it raised selling stock and warrants, minus what is left today. A change in market value; nothing here says anyone did anything wrong.
